Bauer College Alumni Association Encourages Engagement & Giving Back
Hundreds of alumni from the C. T. Bauer College of Business gathered on campus last week for what felt like a family reunion — the Bauer College Alumni Association themed its annual meeting this year “#BauerFamily.”
Patrick Gonzales (MBA ’06), who has served as BCAA president this year, shared with attendees the impact both the college and organization have made on his life.
“I’m really grateful to be here tonight. I tell people I was born in Texas, but my soul came alive when I came to Bauer,” Gonzales said. “I stepped on this campus 12 years ago, and it’s changed my life.”
Over the next year, he added, the alumni association aims to increase its membership by 20 percent and to add new members to its committees and leadership board.
Bauer College Dean Latha Ramchand also spoke to alumni during the event, sharing highlights from the last year of the college.
“It’s always a pleasure to have you here. I want to thank every member of the board — we appreciate everything that you do,” Ramchand said. “It is amazing to me how we keep moving this bar on ‘Where Awesome Happens.’ Every one of you in this room help to make it happen.”
Ramchand also talked about how students are already giving back to the college before they graduate.
“There is now a culture at Bauer where students are giving back,” she added. “The graduating class of the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship this year, as they did last year, gave the college a class gift of $140,000 to support student scholarships for the next class. That’s why we say, at Bauer awesome continues to happen.”
UH Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations Mike Pede spoke about the growth of the University of Houston Alumni Association, along with new initiatives. The meeting concluded with a raffle of items from sponsors, including tickets to the upcoming UH vs. University of Connecticut football game, Mair Perfume and an iFidelity Bluetooth speaker.
Following the meeting, alumni joined in a networking reception in Melcher Hall. Click here to see photos from the event.
