Even as an undergraduate, Sachin Shah (MBA ’07), was something of an over-achiever. While earning his BBA with a Concentration in Marketing from C. T. Bauer College of Business in 2004, Shah was heavily involved in the Program for Excellence in Selling. Within the program, he earned an Advanced Certificate in Sales while working as a Project Manager for a Customer Relationship Management course, and he also helped develop the PES Mentorship Program.
Shah’s involvement with Bauer College and the Program for Excellence in Selling partners helped him to be recruited directly upon graduation by Hilti, a global leading manufacturer of industrial construction solutions. While successfully working as an account manager with Hilti, Sachin returned to Bauer to pursue and complete an MBA with a focus in Marketing Management. Within the program Sachin completed a marketing plan for a Julliard trained pianist, helped complete a business plan for a possible future endeavor for the Bauer College, and still found time to engage in his passion for music and compose music for three local theater productions.
Shah’s current position with Hilti, Trade Manager, involves marketing oversight of a $100 million segment of the industry that targets industrial and government business. In this role, Shah creates the segment’s strategic marketing plan while executing competency trainings for regional managers, account managers and others. The work is fast-paced, but Shah says Bauer well-prepared him for it via the Marketing MBA curriculum. He’s also appreciative of Bauer’s diversity, given Hilti’s global management team.
“My VP is from the UK, I have project directors from France, Brazil, and Switzerland,” Shah says. “Our interns are not your average interns as they are from Lichtenstein, Austria, and Spain. The diversity of the Bauer College has definitely prepared me for this environment, as many of my classmates in undergraduate and graduate were international students. The diversity does not stop at ethnic background; my team make-up at present has people who have come from Engineering, Sales, Finance and Marketing.”
Shah is maintaining his relationship with UH in a number of ways – he has addressed Bauer students in panel discussions and informally at sales mixers, career fairs and other venues and is looking at ways to strengthen Hilti’s involvement in the MBA program.
