Alumni Swing into Final Months of 2010 Bauer Champions Scholarship Campaign
Teams of alumni from the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business are in the home stretch of the 2010 Bauer Champions Scholarship Campaign, an annual initiative that aims to raise funds for student scholarships.
This year’s campaign, which kicked off in January, ends in July and has grown to include nearly 30 teams. Alumni and other Bauer College supporters have formed teams based on a common location, like the Katy/Energy Corridor Champions, or a program, like the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship Champions.
“Our alumni are proud of the accomplishments of our business school and its students,” said Oscar Gutierrez (’79, EMBA ’94), chair of the campaign. “The Bauer Champions Scholarship Campaign is a way for us to rally while we’re reconnecting as teams to support the college and raise funds for scholarships.”
“An important way for loyal Bauer alumni to remain involved with the college is to make sure that a first-class business education is within reach for as many deserving students as possible,” he added.
The Bauer College Alumni Association also recently held another event to support student scholarships — the 2010 Ted Bauer Golf Classic. Presented by Select Asset Management, LLC, the annual event was held in May at Champions Golf Club and raised more than $50,000 to help UH Bauer students pursue their educational goals.
The alumni association will also hold an online auction, beginning June 10 and ending June 24, in an effort to raise scholarship funds. In the past, items up for bid have included a seven-day stay at a beach house in Brazil and several other vacation spots, dinner with KPRC anchor Dominique Sachse (’90), rounds of golf at first-class courses and events in exclusive restaurants.
