On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on how the retail industry is faring this holiday season with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
Each year, the holidays seem to arrive earlier, with many retail stores launching holiday deals, sales and specials before Thanksgiving. According to Stage Stores President and CEO Any Hall, this year is no different, with stores reaching out to consumers every way imaginable.
Hall stopped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss how the retail industry is leveraging the busy holiday season to bring in year-end revenue.
“It’s going to be an interesting season because we’ve got an extra day between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year which throws retail sales into a little bit of turmoil,” Hall says. “That extra Saturday puts in the consumer’s mind that it’s almost like they have an extra week to shop, so December will start off slow and sales will come late because they have an extra weekend day before Christmas.”
With many consumers nowadays preferring to shop online, he adds, retailers have made great strides in creating and building their own online store fronts.
“You’re starting to see e-commerce sales become very strong this year, and I think part of that is that all of the brick and mortar retailers are now in the e-commerce business and seeing the online offerings expanded, the consumers react to that.”
