On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on how Houston fared in the State of the Union with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
On Feb. 12, President Barack Obama made his State of the Union speech, discussing immigration, education and energy — three topics that no doubt impact the Houston area, according to Greater Houston Partnership President and CEO, Bob Harvey.
“We’re pleased to see the immigration discussion resume in Washington,” Harvey said. “We have a large workforce in Houston of undocumented workers, and we would like to see that workforce integrated into the Houston economy, both for the sake of our economy, and to achieve a social and civic structure that is workable for the long term.”
A national focus on energy is also important for Houston, he added.
“The Greater Houston Partnership is in favor of a balanced energy platform for the U.S.,” Harvey said. “That includes traditional oil and gas, renewables and alternative energy, so we’re very pleased to see the president recognize the importance of such a strategy, and we’re supportive of it.”
