On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on Houston’s oil and food industries with Houston Public Media News 88.7 Business Reporter Andrew Schneider.
Two of the things Houston does best intersect with one Bauer alumnus – oil and food.
Edose Ohen, director of Strategy and Business Development for HPO Global Resources Ventures and president and CEO of Glazed the Doughnut Café, recently stopped by Bauer Business Focus to talk about his role at HPO and latest business venture.
HPO is an international oil and gas services firm with operations in Malaysia, Columbia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Ecuador, and will soon expand into India.
“We assist the government and oil and gas companies in their complex and complicated problems,” Ohen said. “We have plenty of senior level geologists and petrophysicists, reservoir engineers that help o solve the problems some of these oil and gas companies are facing.
Ohen came across the idea of a gourmet doughnut shop after seeing a news segment featuring a well-known Seattle café that helped in starting the gourmet doughnut trend. He continued his research by visiting America’s top gourmet doughnut locations before returning to Houston.
“I realized there’s a distinct trend for gourmet donut shops,” Ohen said. “We don’t have that in Houston, and Houston’s the next global city. I wanted to be the first person to do it.”
