Houston’s role as the energy capital of the world makes it an important destination for international dignitaries, says Nigel Sheinwald, British ambassador to the U.S, pictured at right with KUHF business reporter Ed Mayberry.

On Bauer Business Focus – A conversation on why Nigel Sheinwald, the British ambassador to the United States, thinks keeping up with what’s going on in Texas is a priority, with Ed Mayberry, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.

The ambassador makes a point of regularly visiting Texas – this is his third trip to the state this year and his second to Houston – because of its strong business ties with the United Kingdom.

“We are the No. 1 foreign investor in Texas,” Sheinwald says. “We have a sizeable number of dollars and jobs here. There is $20 billion invested in Texas and 74,000 jobs.”

Much of that money is tied up in energy. Sheinwald, and Paul Lynch, the Counsel General in Houston, were also interested in keeping up on trends in the energy industry and investment opportunities.

“Because I’m in the international energy capital of the world, I want to see trends in global energy. And I’ll be looking for a few American investments in the U.K. as well as investment opportunities for British companies in Texas. “
