On Bauer Business Focus – A conversation on the impact of global space commerce on the city of Houston and the upcoming SpaceCom conference with Houston Public Media News 88.7 Business Reporter Andrew Schneider.
Houston First Corporation Vice President in Partnerships and Event Development Michael Heckman and NASA’s Deputy of Strategic Partnership and Executive Liaison to the Greater Houston Partnership Steven Gonzalez stopped by Bauer Business Focus to discuss that energy is usually looked at as the biggest industry in Houston yet it is referred to as ‘Space City.’
“NASA has 50 years of history of taking our technology and commercializing it to be able to benefit other industries, and to use our technologies to benefit life here on Earth,” Gonzalez said.
Many people think of space travel as being largely exploratory, but it’s going to soon be apparent to most Houstonians that there is a commercial space travel market that many entrepreneurs will be interested in discovering, according to Heckman. There will be a SpaceCom conference that will start on Nov. 17.
“With the commercialization of space that is currently underway and us right on the front of that type of an industry, the timing for Houston is perfect to lead in this development of this type of Space-Com and this type of a conference,” Heckman said. “There’s nothing like in it in the world. What we’ve developed, we believe, is the largest commercial space conference of its type.”
