Blue Bell recently recalled all of their products due to listeria concerns recently. With this sudden removal of its brand from the market, will the company be able to recover?

Director of the Institute for Health Care Marketing and Professor of Marketing at the C. T. Bauer College of Business Partha Krishnamurthy recently stopped by Bauer Business Focus to discuss the impact of Blue Bell’s recent recalls and how it affects other ice cream companies.

“My own personal judgment is that they are doing the right thing by recalling the entire product line up,” Krishnamurthy said. “Blue Bell is so concerned about the consumer that they would stop production and pull every product from every shelf and give every customer a refund. That is going the whole nine yards.”

One of the biggest concerns for food industries when crises like these happen is how they are going to bounce back and make sure that they keep their loyal customers.

“Whenever there is a crisis of this proportion, it is very critical that the message has one focal point and that is customer welfare. It is not the company. It is not the brand. The company should come across, and sincerely so, focusing on the customer and only the customer.”
