On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on the changes Downtown Houston has seen with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
As the city of Houston continues to grow, so does the atmosphere of Downtown and according to Ric Campo, chairman of Camden Property and Trust, the city is hitting its stride. Campo stopped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss the changes that have been going on in Downtown Houston.
“If you go back 10 or 15 years ago, Main Street was the divider of Downtown and anything east of Main Street was no man’s land,” Campo said. “There’s been about $5 billion of public and private improvements that have gone in east of Main Street and in Downtown, so it’s been an ongoing process and now it’s getting major momentum.”
In addition to addressing the needs of the east side of Downtown, there will also be a new Marriott hotel that will add 1000 rooms to the George R. Brown Convention Center area according to Campo.
“This hotel is needed because when conventions are trying to book a venue they want to have conventioneers as close to the venue as possible,” Campo added. “An additional 1000 rooms allows us to go after bigger conventions which creates more economic impact on Houston.”
