On Bauer Business Focus – a conversation on the West Houston Economic Development Summit with Houston Public Media News 88.7 Business Reporter Andrew Schneider.
Richard Helmey, chairman of the West Houston Economic Development Summit, stopped by Bauer Business Focus to discuss this Friday’s annual summit. Organized by the West Houston Chamber of Commerce, the summit is in its third year and plans to welcome hundreds of businesses and individuals from around the west Houston area.
According to Helmey, the event draws hundreds of members because of west Houston’s important role in the city.
“West Houston is one of the largest areas in Houston,” Helmey said. “It’s home to most of the integrated energy companies, but it’s also a very vibrant healthcare market and commercial real estate market. Retail has also grown dramatically in West Houston.”
Attendees of the summit will get to hear the results of a November survey completed by over 285 businesses that addressed the impact of declining oil prices on the west Houston economy. Despite the negative impact to the oil industry, Helmey explained that “many folks in [the segments surveyed] are still pretty optimistic about what the coming year will hold.”
The summit will also hold an economic sector panel discussion with panelists from several different industries in the West Houston area including healthcare, housing and retail.
