On Bauer Business Focus –Houston City Controller Ronald Green visits with Ed Mayberry, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
Over the past decade, the City of Houston has shown remarkable growth and stability. Its population has grown by 24 percent, a rate five times that of New York, Boston or San Francisco. And there’s a reason why even after an economic downturn and lost jobs people continue to flock to Houston.
“The big thing for Houston that makes it attractive is we have all the ingredients that help people make it through – whether you are in a job, looking for a job or looking for a better job – because we still have growth,” says Green. The former City of Houston Council Member, who won election last year, gave his perspective on transitioning from Council to a key position for the city.
Holding two degrees from UH including a Bauer MBA, Green also discussed his office’s efforts to promote financial literacy through Bank On Houston which partners with local banks and credit unions to offer low-cost accounts.
