On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on how higher education can fill the energy employment gap with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
Higher education will play a critical role in helping the energy industry bridge its impending employment gap.
Scott Rozzell, executive vice president and general counsel for CenterPoint Energy, stopped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss how local institutions are doing just that.
“There are a lot of baby boomers that are in the energy portion of the workforce that are getting closer to retirement age,” Rozzell said. “We are working hard to make sure they have the necessary replacements to make our enterprises function and function well.”
At the community college level, the Houston Community College is looking at a $425 million bond election in November to provide expanded facilities for their programs. Energy companies have a vested interest in seeing the issue pass, Rozzell said.
“At Houston Community College, we have 75,000 students enrolled at 92% capacity. The bond issue will allow $425 million for construction of new facilities and technology upgrades, which is a particular interest to companies like CenterPoint.”
