On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation about Japanese business relations in the city of Houston with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
Shinichiro Akiba, President and CEO of Toshiba International Corporation of Houston and President of the Japan Business Association of Houston, recently discussed with Bauer Business Focus the impact Japanese companies have had on the local market.
“There are a number of Japanese companies entering into Houston such as creating houses, manufacturing companies, insurance companies, and so forth,” he said.
Following the natural disaster and devastation in Japan, many companies involved with the Japan Business Association of Houston have joined with three other organizations to help raise funds for relief efforts.
“We’ve been trying to encourage support, including donations from Houston people for our Japan relief fund. All donations go directly to the Japan Red Cross via Consulate General of Japan in Houston,” Akiba said.
The 18th annual Japan Festival Houston 2011 being organized in part by the JBA Houston, which is scheduled for April 9-10, will also encourage Houstonians to contribute to relief efforts, he added.
“It is the largest Japan festival in southern U.S. and, I would like to ask all of the Houston people to come visit the festival this weekend at Hermann Park,” Akiba said.
