On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on what’s in store for U.K. and U.S. relationships in 2013 with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
According to Sir Peter Westmacott, the British Ambassador to the United States, 2013 should be a year for growth for the U.K. economy, bolstered by new policies and strengthened U.S. relations. Westmacott stopped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss the year ahead.
“We have an extraordinary and unique history between the two countries, but the defining characteristic for us is that the U.S. is by far our biggest trading partner,” Westmacott said. “The relationship between Brits and Americans ranges from our views on intelligence agencies, terrorism, to foreign policy and economics, so that makes the nature of the relationship much more extensive.”
He added, “Last year was very tough for the U.K. economically. One of the things we are doing is to promote trade and investment in the business corporation with partners abroad so since there is no public stimulus, we can encourage the private sector to trade more and invest more, and that’s important here in the U.S. as well.”
