On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on the wellness industry with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
Health care costs on the rise and companies and consumers are looking for ways to cut their costs. According to an expert at the University of Houston Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, companies are finding ways to do just that with the help of wellness programs.
Su Gibson, lecturer and library director at the Hilton College, dropped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss the rise of corporate involvement in wellness programs.
“The more studies that they’re doing on ROI, return on investment on wellness programs, especially with large companies, the more these companies are deciding that it’s worthwhile to put these programs in place,” Gibson said. “The more that these companies are putting these wellness programs into place, the more they’re realizing that they are really paying off for their businesses.”
Although businesses are looking to these types of programs to provide value for their employees, the wellness industry has seen the impact of the down economy, she added.
“Some segments of the industry are feeling a pinch from the economic restrictions,” Gibson said. “Everyone is individually focused on their own wellness so they will find ways to buy products and services to help them achieve their wellness goals.”
