Theresa Roemer, president and founder of Theresa Roemer LLC, stopped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss being an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on being an entrepreneur with Houston Public Media News 88.7 Business Reporter Andrew Schneider.

Theresa Roemer is president and founder of Theresa Roemer LLC, which includes businesses from home goods to motivational speaking. Roemer became a millionaire at 38 after opening a fitness chain.

Roemer first developed her interest in physical fitness as a business accidentally, she said, as a child that had disabilities and was told that she wouldn’t be able to run and play.

“I thought that was like the kiss of death, so I became an athlete and dove into fitness. What I was doing as a hobby I turned into a business,” Roemer said. “I started my own health club chain and personal training studio chain.”

Roemer is also known for her philanthropic efforts and has turned that into a business itself by assisting corporations in fundraising efforts.

“I try to reach out to [businesses] and tell them to think outside the box. Don’t just do your normal fundraising events,” Roemer added. “People are pulled in so many different directions and people are asked every single day by thousands and thousands of charities to give, give, give. It’s always the ones that stand out that people are more attracted to.”
