On Bauer Business Focus—A conversation about the cycle of contract workers and pay with Houston Public Media News 88.7 Business Reporter Andrew Schneider.

As an energy revolution kicks into high gear around the world, demand is growing for skilled workers, opening up new opportunities for contract workers – and rising pay.

Tobias Read, CEO at Swift Energy, stopped by Bauer Business Focus to discuss the latest trends in contracts. Swift recently released a study on contract pay for a variety of positions and locations, including many factors in the final data.

“When we do the study we look at a number of variables,” Read said. “The primary one is the fees that we ourselves are seeing being paid to contracts from our own data, but we also corroborate this against external data taken from some of our customers and then also some external websites that specialize in this. We bring them all together to get a better feel of what rates are going to be.”

The study included a list of the top ten paying contract jobs in multiple countries, with many changes since the last study was released two years ago.

“We’re seeing some really interesting developments in the marketplace,” Read said. “In terms of jobs, what we’ve seen is development as the projects move through their lifecycle. We’re seeing commissioning of drilling engineer jobs now as the highest paying, where as historically it was some of the jobs around construction.”
