On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on the energy industry’s need for engineers with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
The oil and gas industry is facing a problem, increasing job vacancies with decreasing employees to fill them.
Tobias Read, CEO of Swift Worldwide Resources, stopped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss how his company is addressing the problem of staffing a younger generation in the oil and gas industry.
“Many of the engineers who we’ve historically used in the industry are now looking towards retirement, especially in the established domestic markets,” Read said. “There’s been insufficient staff coming in at the younger levels over the last few years as people have moved perhaps into other industries.”
With engineers retiring without new employees to replace them, Read and his team are searching outside the box to fill growing vacancies.
“We’re trying to turn stones over in every country looking for people in different markets who are willing to relocate and work on the projects in a wide variety of areas,” Read said. “We’re trying to bring people in from associated areas that have relevant skills that can actually move into the sector and fill up some of the slots.”
