SEI Rings in 15 Years With Week of Events

Week of Sellebrations Will Honor Distinguished Alumni Inductees into Hall of Honor
The Sales Excellence Institute at the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business will mark its 15th anniversary in May with a week of “sellebration” to recognize the faculty, staff, alumni, students and partners who have built the program into the top sales program in the nation.
The sales program at UH Bauer was developed to give business students the opportunity to specialize in a field where many graduates found themselves. Under the umbrella of the Sales Excellence Institute, the Program for Excellence in Selling is the academic arm of the center, which also focuses on executive training and sales research for companies. SEI focuses on executive education and sales research for companies, while PES focuses on the undergraduate curriculum.
“We’ve seen tremendous growth in sales education and research at UH Bauer since we began the program a little over 15 years ago,” said Michael Ahearne, executive director of SEI. “We are proud to celebrate all that we’ve achieved and to invite back all our alumni, from the first graduating class on, to see how much we’ve grown.”
The program started with three classes — Professional Selling, Advanced Professional Selling and Sales Management — and now includes a curriculum of six classes that allows students to participate in live sales calls. By differentiating themselves from a crowded field of applicants, a professional selling certificate has helped students from the program land job offers from leading companies.
Fifteen of those students, now alumni, will be recognized by the program during its “Week of Sellebration” to showcase the strength of the education it provides. The first-ever inductees into the programs Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor represent companies from around Houston and the globe, and will be announced on May 3.
The “Week of Sellebration” will also honor current students in the program, including a team who took home the top prize in the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NSCS), officially making them the number one student sales team in the nation. (See related story).
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
15th Anniversary Celebration
Tuesday, May 3
5 – 7 p.m.
SEI will kick off its celebration in the newest UH Bauer building, Cemo Hall, by announcing its Top 15 Distinguished Alumni. Presented by State Farm, the event will also highlight corporate partners, students, faculty and staff.
Public Relations/Media Luncheon
Melcher Hall, Room 375 and AIM Center lobby
Wednesday, May 4
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This special luncheon will serve as an opportunity for SEI to introduce itself and recent successes to the business community and media.
Graduation and Induction Ceremony
Thursday, May 5
5 – 9 p.m.
Students will be the focus of this event, as those graduating and being inducted into the program are honored, along with the top producing students and sales teams. In addition, UPS Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Alan Gershenhorn will serve as keynote speaker, and the Top 15 Distinguished Alumni will be featured. (See more information).
SEI Advisory Board Meeting

Friday, May 6
9 – 11:45 a.m.
The culmination of the week will be a meeting of SEI’s advisory board, which includes 3M, Ecolab, Hearst Media Services and Hilti as Strategic Partners, along with several Institute and Program partners. (See full list).
