Bauer College ACCY Program Natural Fit for Cougar Defensive Back
When Nick Saenz came to the University of Houston to play football, he knew accounting would not be the easiest major. But as this sophomore defensive back has shown in what could be the Cougar’s most competitive season, Saenz likes a challenge.
Saenz came to UH from Pearland High School, where he first became interested in complementing his sports career with a business degree. When the university recruited Saenz to play football, the reputation of the business school drew Saenz to Bauer College, he said.
“Being from Houston, I knew that Bauer was one of the best business schools in the state,” Saenz added. “With a family member in accounting, I’ve always thought that it would be an interesting field to study, and I knew I couldn’t go wrong with an accounting degree.”
Keeping up with classes during the busy football season can be tough, but Saenz finds a way to balance both. He credits his drive in the classroom to lessons learned on the field.
“Football has taught me to stay on top of things and not let myself fall behind. The more you practice and the better prepared you are mentally, the better you do.”
Saenz’s goals at the University of Houston are to play well, study hard and graduate with a degree he can be proud of.
Saenz is one of several Cougar football players who have chosen Bauer College as the place to excel academically.
