New Committee Will Support College’s Strategic Objective to Promote Diversity & Inclusion

Dean Paul A. Pavlou recently announced that the C. T. Bauer College of Business is officially launching the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee this month, which will promote co-curricular activities, events, professional development and programming in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion.

The new office is part of the Bauer College’s overall strategy, outlined in the 2020-2025 Bauer College Strategic Plan to “set the standard for promoting diversity and inclusion.”

“As one of the nation’s most diverse business schools, we must not only celebrate our diversity but find opportunities to actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, while also discussing the challenges and barriers that still exist, generating conversation to make positive, actionable changes to our institution, our students, faculty, and staff, and society in general,” Pavlou said. “Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will be charged with promoting this effort and bringing all stakeholders together on this important objective.”

The Bauer DEI Committee will be chaired by Assistant Dean of Strategic Initiatives Roger Barascout, and the inaugural members include Inclusive Leadership Initiative Director and Instructional Associate Professor Barbara Carlin, Program Manager for Student Success Whitney Johnson, College Business Administrator Melissa Niles, Graduate & Professional Programs Program Manager Hisham Talib, Student Engagement Program Manager Tierra Walters, and Undergraduate Business Programs Program Manager Joyce Williams. In Spring 2021, undergraduate and graduate student representatives will be added to the committee.

“This committee is part Bauer’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a step towards our goal of ensuring that each member of our community has the opportunity to thrive to a full potential in a welcoming, equitable and supportive environment,” Barascout said. “I believe our collective growth in these areas will help us engage and promote diversity, equity and inclusion in all areas of our college.”

Faculty and staff interested in getting involved in the planning and implementation of the committee’s initiatives should reach out to the Committee Chair or any of the current members. The committee plans many opportunities to be actively engaged and to participate in this important and timely effort.
