Submissions Wanted for Elevator Pitch Competition
Open to All UH Students, Faculty, Staff

Students, faculty and staff from across the UH campus are invited to submit their best business ideas for CougarPitch, which is accepting submissions until Oct. 31.

Got a business idea you’ve wanted to pitch? The Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business would love to hear it.

CougarPitch — an elevator-pitch competition open to UH students, faculty and staff — is open for submissions. Deadline for CougarPitch entries is Oct. 31. Finalists will compete in an elevator-pitch presentation on Saturday, Nov. 17.

“At the University of Houston, we think it’s time that we expand our entrepreneurial efforts well beyond just the Wolff Center Entrepreneurship,” says Ken R. Jones, the center’s associate director, “and invite those from all facets and entry levels within the University of Houston campus to participate in the entrepreneurial process and share their ideas.”

Successful businesses, Jones explains, are often born of chance encounters — in airplanes, restaurants, and elevators. “You meet somebody, and they ask you what you do, or what your business is, or your idea, and you get a very short window to make a relatively good impression,” says the Bauer College professor.

Over 200 UH students and faculty participated in the inaugural CougarPitch, which was held in Nov. 2011, with 104 making it to the second round and 13 making it to the finals.

First place winners in each category will receive $1,000, while second place will take home $500 and third place $250.

Remember: it only takes two minutes.
