As a business school’s reputation for academic research grows, the number of faculty members appointed to the editorial boards of respected journals may also increase.

Case in point: Six marketing faculty members at the C. T. Bauer College of Business now serve on the editorial review board of the Journal of Marketing Research (JMR), a highly respected bimonthly peer-reviewed journal that serves scholarly and practitioner communities in the field of Marketing.

“Obviously, this reflects well on our department,” said Marketing Department Chair and Michael J. Cemo Professor of Marketing & Entrepreneurship Ed Blair. “The JMR board currently has about 200 members, including the Associate Editors. Most top schools have one to three members on the board. Based on the current board, the only schools with as many as six are Columbia University and the University of Maryland. We are in fine company.”

Editorial Board members of academic journals are gatekeepers who help shape and refine the research that is ultimately accepted for publication.

“You don’t get appointed to the JMR board unless you are viewed as a first-class scholar who can be trusted with judgments about what should and should not be published in a top journal,” Blair said.

Reappointed to the JMR editorial review board this year are Professor Michael Ahearne, Assistant Professor Shijie Lu, Associate Dean of Research and Professor Vanessa Patrick and Assistant Professor Seshadri Tirunillai.

Professor Rex Du and Associate Professor Sam Hui are new appointees to the JMR editorial board this year.

JMR is one of four academic journals published by the American Marketing Association.
