Executive Professor Steve Koch Brings Corporate Leadership Experience to New Role
The C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston recently announced that Marketing Executive Professor Steve Koch will assume the role of Assistant Dean for Graduate and Professional Programs, effective May 1.
After teaching internet marketing, new product management, marketing strategy and web analytics courses for 12 years, Koch will now lead the charge of decision making for new and existing curriculum design, graduate faculty appointments and accreditation standards.
“After holding senior leadership positions at several large corporations, it’s been a blessing to be allowed to teach at Bauer these past 12 years. I never thought I’d be back in an organizational leadership position,” Koch said. “I’m excited and am looking forward to leading Bauer’s Graduate and Professional Programs to the next level.”
Koch brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience with companies like Pennzoil-Quaker State, Coca-Cola Foods, Mattel Toys and Sega of America to his new position. His work in brand building, market research, new products, interactive marketing and creating marketing decision support systems led to industry awards and national recognition. In 1999, his work received BusinessWeek magazine’s “Best New Product of the Year” award.
Koch’s lauded corporate experience is pertinent to his new role in helping bolster Bauer College’s current corporate partnerships and creating opportunities for new ones. His responsibilities as assistant dean will include constructing programs in executive education for corporations who want assistance in developing their highest value employees.
“We already have existing executive education, but I plan to further develop Bauer’s corporate relationships in this area,” Koch said. “As our professional programs continue to do well, they too will create value for the university and business community as a whole.”
As a faculty member, Koch has put Bauer on the map for online marketing through participation and consistent wins in the Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC). Bauer has performed well in the last five years of competition, often bringing home top honors, including recognition as Global Champions in 2011 and Americas Region winners in 2013. In 2014, Koch’s student teams made GOMC history when they placed second and third worldwide in the AdWords Social Impact Awards.
“My goal is to grow long-term value for all Bauer stakeholders – students, faculty, staff, employers and the community at large. According to objective, independent ratings that judge the quality of world-class academic research, there are just a handful of programs in the nation that can match the Bauer faculty credentials,” Koch said. “And it’s these same faculty that teach and mentor in Bauer Graduate Programs, including all of our MBA and MS programs.”
He added: “These are truly amazing times for Bauer College and the University of Houston, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
