UH Bauer College Strengthens Industry Ties,
Appointing Energy Industry Vet Executive Faculty Member
To kick off the fall semester, the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business is strengthening its relationships with the local business community, bringing in energy industry veteran John T. McNabb II as an executive faculty member.
McNabb, who is vice chairman of investment banking for Duff & Phelps Corporation, will serve as Bauer Executive Professor, teaching in the college’s Global Energy Executive MBA (GEMBA) program in Houston, Dubai and Beijing as well as instructing in the Executive Leadership program for Energy Executives, a program now housed at the University of Houston and jointly offered by the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and the Bauer College of Business.
In his new role, McNabb will work closely with Interim Dean Latha Ramchand and other college administrators to bring more Houston business leaders into Bauer classrooms for guest lectures and presentations, while encouraging companies to involve Bauer students in projects and case studies, extending the connection outside the classroom.
“John has been actively involved in Bauer College for many years now, and we’re excited to have him in this expanded role,” Ramchand said. “As Houston’s business school, it is important that we serve as a resource to local industry by strengthening and growing our connections with business leaders in the city.”
McNabb is a member and former chairman of the Bauer Dean’s Executive Board. He is also co-chair of the advisory council of the GEMBA program offered through UH Bauer and the Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai, India. McNabb commented, “I am excited about this new opportunity. I am committed to enhancing the significant contribution Bauer College is making to improve leadership in the energy industry worldwide. Bauer College is very important to me, personally and professionally, and I look forward to participating in the great future Bauer College is poised to achieve.”
Before assuming his position with Duff & Phelps in June, McNabb was founder and chairman of the board of Growth Capital Partners, L.P., a company he co-founded in 1992.
He started his career with Mobil Oil in its exploration and production division in Colorado and Texas and continues to be an oil and gas producer and an active participant in the oilfield service segment.
McNabb has served on the board of seven public companies listed on major exchanges. He is a shareholder and chairman of the board of Willbros Group and a shareholder and director of Continental Resources Inc. He is also a shareholder and director of Premier Natural Resources and Miocene Energy LLC.
He holds both bachelor of arts and master of business administration degrees from Duke University. McNabb is an emeritus member of the Board of Visitors of the Fuqua School of Business at Duke.
