A “Just Do It” Mindset is Key to Keeping New Year’s Resolutions, Expert Says
45 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, with the top three being to lose weight, get organized and spend less or save more. With Jan. 17 marking National Ditch Your Resolution Day, C. T. Bauer College of Business marketing Professor Vanessa Patrick offers new research that reveals a simple trick to sticking to your goals.
Patrick finds that a strength-based approach to goal setting combined with a “Just Do It” mindset does the trick. “Only eight percent of individuals who make New Year’s resolutions stick to them,” Patrick said. “After setting a goal, if we continue thinking about, reconsidering and second-guessing the goal, we are more likely to fail.”
Dr. Patrick is available to discuss how her research findings are helping adults to achieve their goals and stick (a bit longer) to their New Year’s Resolutions.
