Super Bowl XLIX Arsenal of Ads Overshadowed by Soft TV Ad Market

As the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots play for the national title in Arizona on Feb. 1, companies like Doritos, Coca-Cola and GoDaddy will face off as returning champions of Super Bowl commercials.

But, a Bauer marketing professor says, the soft TV ad market of 2014 is going to change the game. Both Coca-Cola (with an “America the Beautiful” concept) and GoDaddy (with risqué spots featuring NASCAR darling Danica Patrick) are only showing one commercial this year, while Doritos will have two 30-second spots in the ninth year of its “Crash the Super Bowl” campaign, which asks consumers to generate ad content.
