WEAPONS IN THE WAR AGAINST CHOCOLATE CAKE

March is National Nutrition Month — but how can you say no to a gooey hunk of temptation? Recent research by Partha Krishnamurthy, an associate marketing professor at the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, shows what it takes for eaters to set a limit and stick to it. The study is both a roadmap for what works and a look at how easy it is to get sidetracked when it comes to eating and indulging. For Krishnamurthy, who is also director of the college’s Institute for Healthcare Marketing, this work is part of a larger effort to help consumers gain control over their indulgences.

GOOGLING MARKETING’S FUTURE

MBA students in a new class at UH Bauer are out to show how much they can sell on a $200 budget. The money will go for ads generated by searches on Google. The four students — all of whom have worked in marketing — have teamed with an unnamed Houston business as part of a contest created by the search giant. Even if they don’t win the global competition, they all have the chance to advance their careers by showing their mastery of the new art of selling online and old-fashioned customer analysis.
