U.S. Energy Future at March 24 Sequent DLS

CenterPoint President and CEO David McClanahan will address the role of utility infrastructure in meeting the nation’s energy future at the March 24 Sequent DLS.

On March 24, the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business will host CenterPoint Energy, Inc. President and CEO David McClanahan for its second installment of this semester’s Distinguished Leaders Series, presented by Sequent Energy Management.

The event will be at 6 p.m. in Stubblefield Auditorium in Michael J. Cemo Hall following a private reception. McClanahan will discuss the role of utility infrastructure in meeting the nation’s energy future, a topic he has extensive experience in, with his current role in leading a company composed of an electric transmission and distribution utility serving the Houston metropolitan area, local natural gas distribution businesses in six states, a competitive natural gas sales and service business serving customers in the eastern half of the U.S., interstate pipeline operations with two natural gas pipelines in the mid-continent region and a field services business with natural gas gathering operations, also in the mid-continent region.

McClanahan earned his MBA from Bauer College in 1976 and has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with honors from the University of Texas. He is also a certified public accountant.

Prior to his current position, he was president and chief operating officer of all regulated operations for Reliant Energy and served as vice chairman of Reliant Energy in 1999. He began his career with CenterPoint Energy, Inc in 1972 and has over 40 years of experience in various aspects of business administration in the energy industry.

Since its inception in 2002, the Distinguished Leaders Series at UH Bauer has brought leaders from the business world to campus to give students firsthand perspectives of their paths to success. With support from Sequent Energy Management, the DLS has recently focused on how those leading energy companies are keeping pace with innovations in the industry.
