In March, students and student organizations from the C. T. Bauer College of Business were celebrated during the 15th Annual Leadership Awards Luncheon sponsored by Halliburton.

The event marks the end of the academic year by recognizing students for their service and leadership traits. Bauer students also hear from business leaders in the company, with a keynote address this year by Halliburton’s Senior Vice President of Tax, Myrtle L. Jones.

Jones, who has more than 30 years of tax experience in companies such as Service Corporation International and GlobalSantaFe, spoke on business ethics.

”I didn’t spend a whole lot of time thinking about how my own personal ethics would come into play, and how my moral compass would be so important to my success and my survival in the business world,” Jones said. “But now that I have gotten to where I am and look back on it, I realize that that was something that was truly important and truly saved me.”

In addition to the keynote address, students rotated through tables with professionals, conversing practically about real issues, such as the importance of ethics addressed by Jones.

The Bauer Leadership Initiatives team celebrated student leadership by awarding organizations and outstanding students, and the highest honor, the Ted Bauer Leadership award.

Beta Alpha Psi President Megan Iselin said the recognitions both she and the organization received were reminders of the importance of involvement during a student’s collegiate career.

“It just goes to show that whenever you dedicate yourself to something bigger, it pays dividends in ways you didn’t even think it would,” Iselin said.
