UH Bauer Student Organizations Encouraged to
Register for Scholarship Shoot Out Challenge

Last year, UH Bauer student organizations competed for $5,000 in student scholarships, with the Finance Association coming out on top. This year, the groups will vie for $9,000 in the 5th Annual New York Life Basketball Scholarship Shoot Out Challenge.

On March 3 at the University of Houston Cougars vs. Rice Owls basketball game, students from UH Bauer will have the opportunity to shoot hoops for scholarships during the 5th Annual New York Life Basketball Scholarship Shoot Out Challenge.

The yearly event gives student organizations at the college the chance to compete for $9,000 in scholarship funding, provided by New York Life and CareerBuilder.com. Each of the nearly two dozen student groups at Bauer is invited to have three representatives participate in a free throw competition during time-outs and halftime, with the group scoring the most free throws earning the highest amount to contribute to their organization’s endowment.

“Not only is it important for New York Life to be involved with UH and Bauer, it’s important for us to give back to students in the form of scholarships,” said NYL partner Gustavo Cuellar. “The students at UH are the same as the people who make up the city of Houston, and when they graduate, they make exceptional candidates for us to interview, hire and promote.”

In order to participate, student organizations need to have at least 50 percent of their membership attending the game, which starts at 7 p.m. in Hofheinz Pavilion. Student organizations interested in participating in the shootout should arrive at 5:45 p.m. to sign up.
