Marcus Smith is one of Liberty Mutual’s best.

A 2004 graduate of the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business is a top sales leader for the 6th largest P&C insurance company in the nation.

Marcus Smith, who received a bachelor of business administration from UH Bauer, was recently presented with the Crown Award from Liberty Mutual for having sold the most auto insurance policies for the company in 2008.

“I felt like it was a validation of my skills, work ethic and education,” he said.

He credits his success in earning the award to the education he earned while attending Bauer College. “Bauer helped me tremendously,” Smith added. “Not to brag, but I really studied hard, so I walked out of Bauer an educated businessman.”

As a sales representative for Liberty Mutual, Smith feels very gratified about the award and the added enthusiasm it brings to his career and profession. “Being number one in the country with a Fortune 100 company can never be taken, once earned,” he said.

During his time as a student at UH Bauer, Smith was involved with the college’s Program for Excellence in Selling. He also took courses in finance and entrepreneurship. “I learned sales techniques, management techniques, negotiation techniques and motivational techniques from PES,” he said. “I learned how to properly forecast and how to make better financial decisions through finance. Through entrepreneurship I learned top level perspective.”
