On Bauer Business Focus – A conversation on a program bringing together investors, entrepreneurs and academic experts with Houston Public Media News 88.7 Business Reporter Andrew Schneider.
As society continues to see an increase in societal issues, JCI has created a program where collaboration between many people can solve some of these issues.
JCI President Daniel Barker recently stopped by Bauer Business Focus to discuss JCI’s new program, Impact Days and how a community can benefit from having entrepreneurs.
“What we wanted was a program that could ultimately become sustainable in itself,” Barker said. “We are bringing out social entrepreneurs in the community, or really the community in general that are interested in solving some of these issues.” “It’s easy to start to do things and start programs that feel good but aren’t necessarily as impactful as they could or should be because we don’t have all these people working together.”
On February 13 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a reverse pitch session with Dr. Sheila Katz, from the sociology department at the University of Houston.
“The reverse pitch session is a really critical component because when you start talking about social problems, you have to find the underlying issue. She is basically going to frame the issue of poverty starting at a high level and drilling down to specific challenges that are faced when you are trying to develop solutions.”
