On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on filling the skills gap in the oil and gas industry with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.

Companies worldwide are looking for candidates to fill positions in one of the fastest growing industries — energy. With Houston’s strong base of talent and education in energy, recruiters are flocking to the city to find what they need.

Global energy recruiting firm Spencer Ogden recently brought its operations to the city. CEO David Spencer-Percival stopped by Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss the expansion into Houston.

“Spencer Ogden decided to come to Houston because we are a graduate heavy company, and we hire a lot of graduates and train them,” Spencer-Percival said. “Houston is a very strong center for graduates coming out of universities, and we want to take the brightest graduates we can find.”

As the oil and gas industry faces an impending crisis of a skills gap, Spencer Ogden is hoping to combat this problem with the graduates from the Houston area.

“The oil and gas industry has a lot of retiring executives, and there’s a huge skills gap looming. I think they’re going to have a lot of trouble bridging that gap, and that’s what our company is all about. We provide and oversee highly skilled oil and gas people to go out on rigs, and the graduates from Houston are going to be the answer.”
