UH Bauer Assistant Dean Jamie Belinne talks maximizing resumes with KUHF’s Ed Mayberry.

On Bauer Business Focus – A conversation on standout resumes and job search skills with Ed Mayberry, business reporter for KUHF 88.7.

Jamie Belinne’s job is to teach students how to find jobs, even in a tough market. Often she sees that a key tool in the hunt – their resume – is lacking. The Director of the Rockwell Career Center at Bauer College emphasizes how important it is to think like a recruiter with too many job applicants to review.

To be the one that gets the interview:

  • Focus on page 1. A person with a tall stack of resumes to evaluate isn’t going to spend the time carefully reading and considering each one. “They scan it quickly. You have to quickly get to the skills you have that they are looking for.”
  • Adjust for the job. Be sure resumes and cover letters address the employer’s needs. “They are looking for key things. It’s best to look closely at job description.”
  • Put it in numbers. Employers are looking for examples of accomplishments. “A specific example of your skills is much more effective.”
  • Don’t depend on the resume. “You are most likely to get work by talking to people than just sending out a resume.”

Jamie Belinne is an assistant dean and Director of the Rockwell Career Center.

I’m so delighted to see the Bauer School of Business has added to their courses, HOW TO DRESS PROFESSIONALLY! My name is Clara Cook Lambert, and over the last several months, have left you several e-mails and phone messages—-BECAUSE, I want to be involved with this course! As one of the first Image Consultants in this city, comming from a great career in Retail Fashion, and an education in Marketing from the University of Houston—–I would love to be a speaker for,or help to design what and how this course lays out
Everybody wants to look good——better than good, they want to look their best! Even in this tech savvy, internet driven world, WE JUDGE OTHERS BY WHAT THEY ARE WEARING, HOW THEY LOOK, AND HOW THEY CARRY THEMSELVES!!! It’s not an intentional observation——-it’s just that your senses record “All of That” within the first 45 seconds of SEEING/MEETING someone—–thus forming the basis of your opinion about that person!! PERIOD!
It is my belief that EVERYONE can look awesome and feel their most confident, when THEY KNOW HOW TO WEAR THE RIGHT CLOTHES FOR THEM—-AND WEAR THEM TO THE RIGHT PLACES!
    Confidently Creating Your Best Images
