On Bauer Business Focus — A conversation on reusing deconstructive materials with Andrew Schneider, business reporter for KUHF 88.7 FM.
What started as a small house-moving business in 1952 has become an innovative business model — Cherry Companies is one of the largest recyclers in Texas and the Gulf Coast, with a cycle of services that begins with demolition and leads to recycling more than a million tons of scrap materials.
Leonard Cherry, the company’s CEO, visited Bauer Business Focus recently to discuss how his company makes use of deconstructed materials after they have been removed.
“Today, we continue to look for ways to reuse. We have always looked at what some people consider a waste stream as a raw product,” Cherry said. “We take these building components that we have access to and reuse as many as the building components that we can.”
Many of the items, such as concrete and composition roofing shingles that the Cherry company recycles, are reused in items such as asphalt used to pave roads, Cherry added.
