Daylong Event Includes Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale Keynote, Interactive Programs, Expert Tips
In partnership with the Financial Planning Association of Houston, Houston Lawyers Referral Service and others, the C. T. Bauer College of Business will host an on-campus event Nov. 11 designed to provide ongoing resources to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
The Harvey Financial Recovery Boot Camp will bring together experts and leaders in the areas of finance, tax, real estate and legal issues, to share their insights of the impact of Hurricane Harvey on the greater Houston area and individuals.
The daylong event features a special lineup of interactive programs, expert speakers and one-on-one sessions to ensure that participants have plenty of opportunity to discuss challenges and solutions with a wide range of professionals.
The event will include an opening session featuring Gallery Furniture owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale as the keynote speaker. McIngvale made national headlines for transforming his furniture stores into shelters after Hurricane Harvey for fellow Houstonians.
“In the wake of Hurricane Harvey and flooding that had a significant impact on the lives and financial conditions of our students and community, Bauer College has partnered with several organizations,” Undergraduate Business Programs Associate Dean Frank Kelley said. “We are thankful for this all volunteer effort by ‘Mattress Mack’ and many professionals in the financial, legal, and real estate fields donating their time and talents.”
Kelley added: “Being able to provide help to the Houston community is what Bauer, and the University of Houston, is all about. The City of Houston is a giving city, so it is only natural that we give back in the way we can, through education.”
