Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis recently implored his team to not take the traditional picture with the Super Bowl trophy before the big game in fear that it would cause bad luck. Similar to hockey teams not touching the Stanley Cup until it’s theirs, these traditions may help to keep teams focused on the task at hand, rather than a reward that has not yet been earned. Bauer Marketing Professor and former professional baseball player, Michael Ahearne, is available to discuss how this approach can help to drive motivation and a shared team goal.
