For UH students, the fall semester is only a few weeks old, but at Bauer College, students are already signing up for their first résumé seminars. Jamie Belinne, assistant dean for career services and director of the Rockwell Career Center, has seen firsthand how important it is for job-seeking students to start early. Writing a résumé now can be a wake-up call for students preparing to graduate and enter the workforce, she says. Writing or updating a résumé doesn’t take long, but the effort can reveal the need for some personal improvement, according to Belinne — anyone looking for a job or internship in the next year still has time for significant steps, like getting a part-time job, joining a professional organization, or doing volunteer work.
