The C. T. Bauer College of Business will welcome UH Football Coach Tom Herman for the Spring 2016 installment of the Inspiring Minds Speaker Series on April 13.

The event will be formatted as a discussion between Bauer College Dean Latha Ramchand and Herman, with the theme “Lessons in Leadership.” The college is accepting student, faculty, staff and alumni submitted questions before the event on social media, asking users to tag their posts with #InspiringMinds16.

“Whether someone is in a boardroom or a locker room, the skills of leading a team are the same,” Dean Latha Ramchand said. “At Bauer, we are training future leaders — some may end up in a corporate environment, but others will find themselves leading organizations in the arts, humanities, athletics or elsewhere. Leadership is an important issue for any industry, and we want to expose our students to successful leaders with different backgrounds and experiences.”

Ramchand added: “The goal of our Inspiring Minds series is to bring speakers to our students (and the Houston community) who have unique perspectives on leadership, and there is no doubt that Coach Tom Herman has a thing or two to say about leading a team. Since coming to campus, Coach Herman has been interviewed many times and spoken to many groups, but at the Inspiring Minds event, we hope to learn what he’s like off the field and shed some light on who he is as a leader, a husband and father, a Mensa member and a person. Of course, I’m sure we’ll also talk about his plans for Cougar football in the fall.”

Launched last spring, the Inspiring Minds Speaker Series is designed to engage students and the Houston community through personal reflections from successful business leaders and entrepreneurs.

The event is free and open to the public, although the college recommends attendees RSVP online, as seating is limited and preference will be given to those who have RSVP’d. A networking reception will be held at 5 p.m. in the AIM Ticker Area in Melcher Hall, with the discussion beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Stubblefield Auditorium (Cemo Hall).
